February 18th Announcements

THE AUMBRY CANDLE burns this week to the Glory of God, given by Susan Cummings, in loving memory of her husband, George.  The candle is also given this week, to the Glory of God, by Cynthia Batchelor, in loving memory of parents, Christopher and Sarah.

DIOCESAN PRAYER:  The Administrators of the Anglican Initiatives Fund

During Lent, our church and liturgy look a little different as we try to create a mood of restraint and simplicity.

  • The hangings and vestments are purple, the colour of penitence, and we no longer decorate the altar with flowers.

  • We avoid hymns with the word “Alleluia” and we will say, rather than sing, the Lord’s Prayer.
  • The joyful “Gloria in Excelsis” is replaced by the solemn Lenten Prose as we remember our need for God’s mercy.  This act of confession takes a prominent place at the beginning of the eucharist.
